Herbstferien in der Toskana Italien

Visit authentic Tuscany / Italy in fall

Fall in the hills of Italy is a festival of light. Nowhere else can you find such beautiful, inspiring plays of light as here in Tuscany: Harmonious colour compositions made of dark green forests or dull green olive groves in front of a deep blue evening sky. Here and there an autumnally coloured vineyard. Furthermore, elongated shadows of lonely trees on ploughed fields, whose clods draw wavy stripes. A paradise for all guests of holiday home Podere Palazzone, for artists and nature lovers. In addition, patient photographers can catch a glimpse of the grey herons resting here on their flight south.

Autumn holiday in Italy

Generally, in Italy the weather in fall is sunny with average highs of 25°C (September) to 16°C (November) here in Pomarance. Autumn is a good time to explore the many lovely towns of Tuscany. For example, Casole d’Elsa, Colle Val d’Elsa, Radicondoli, Suvereto or Campiglia Marittima. Also, you can discover authentic, rural Tuscany in one of the small borghi around our holiday home. Despite their beauty, they are visited a little less often. Or, probably because they are less visited, they are so beautiful.

Even if only the bravest still go for swimming, our beautiful coast is absolutely worth a visit, also in fall. Indeed, you may enjoy the view of the calm sea while tasting fresh fish in one of the fish restaurants along the Costa degli Etruschi. Cosy trattorie in narrow alleys serve popular autumn dishes of Tuscany. Such as the zuppa Volterrana, the spezzatino alle olive and the fegatini. Furthermore, you can visit one of the gastronomic festivals dedicated to mushrooms, chestnuts or wild boar. At the end of October, Volterra pays homage to the truffle in the Volterragusto series of events.

Grape and olive harvest

Autumn for Tuscany and our Agriturismo means harvest time. The grape harvest harvest takes place at the end of September, entirely by hand of course. At the end of October instead, we start olive harvest. As soon as the morning dew has disappeared, we pick until dark. Finally, when the work is done, we light the fire in the big focarile, pour a glass of wine and roast a pair of chestnuts in the embers. Then we taste the first drops of freshly pressed olive oil on a bruschetta until tiredness overcomes us.
